989 Sports is back ladies and gentlemen and they have come swinging for the fences. This year, we definitely have a 3 horse race when it comes to the baseball titles of '05. MLB 2006 for the PS2, created by 989 sports is a great baseball title. While it may not quite be up to the same level as MVP Baseball yet, it is definitely on it's way and I can't wait to see what 989 Sports has up it's sleeve for MLB 2007. Ign.com recently reviewed MLB 2006 and gave it an 8.7. I have played all 3 baseball titles, MVP Baseball, MLB 2006 and MLB 2K5. I would rank it in that order as well: 1. MVP Baseball, 2. MLB 2006 and 3. MLB 2K5. The visuals in MLB 2006 are top notch and just as good as MVP especially when running in Widescreen mode. Unfortunately for MLB 2006 there were some bugs shipped with the game, which do hurt it and hold it back from being at the front of the pack. There is a new fast forward feature that you can fast forward through the game but only play when it is your player that you choose but there are some freeze bugs there as well. The game has awesome camera angles, realistic batter walk-ups and a great interface that is only held up due to some lengthy load times. MLB 2006 has a great and deep franchise mode and it will probably keep you playing until next season. 989 Sports has taken some huge leaps and bounds with this game and it is appreciated. Fix the bugs and a few other issues and MLB 2007 could be the pick of the litter next year!! Oh yah and you gotta love Vladimir Guerrero as the cover boy this year as well. Here is a screen shot.
