The Sony PSP will be launching in Japan on December 12, 2004. The price in Japan will be 19,800 yen which is equivalent to approximately $185. That is going to be outstanding. Analysts say the price in Japan is always slightly higher than in America. Price range when released next year in America will be in the range of $179-$199. How awesome will that be for us gamers. First thought when the PSP was first unveiled that it would be $249-$299 range which was a bit steep for many people to pay for a handheld, especially when Nintendo released the $149 pricetag for the Nintendo DS coming on November 21st.
Sony also has finally talked specs for battery life as well. I let out a big sign of relief when I heard the numbers. For games battery life will range between 4 and 6 hours and 4 to 5 hours on continuous video. These numbers were reported with the system using 180 cd/m2 maximum luminence and minimum 80 luminence cd/m2. Also, the volume set at half level, headphones instead of speakers and wireless LAN not in use. When the Sony PSP is plugged into A/C Power, the luminence raises to 200 cd/m2 for better brightness.
Really all I can say at this point is WOW, bring on the PSP. Sony says they have 21 games launching throughout the year but no specifics yet to what games and when.
