Let me tell you right off the bat, I loved Rise of the Kasai. It is the sequal to acclaimed PS2 title The Mark of Kri a few years ago. The Mark of Kri in it's time had received a 9.2 out of 10 from ign.com. Rise of the Kasai only received a 7.8 out of 10. The reasoning behind the lower review the second time around is because in the past few years, we have seen what the PS2 can do graphically and Rise of the Kasai just doesn't take advantage of it. Two years ago The Mark of Kri, which had the exact same look as Rise of the Kasai was hot back in it's day. Today however those graphics just don't cut it and in the graphics category, it received a 7.5 out of 10. The presentation however in Rise of the Kasai is outstanding and worth your time and money for for that. The cutscenes in the game give you a true sense what the game is about. Great muscial effects give you the feel you are in a tribal area and you are in the right times. The combat system, while it is system is still very fun and I enjoyed just as much as I did two years ago in The Mark of Kri. This time around ign.com claims that the combat is brought down by the extra work needed to make your partner do the right thing or clean up there mistakes. I have played and beat the game and not at one point did I feel that way. I never felt like my partner dragged my gaming experience down one bit so I probably would have given the game a higher score. I am not sure who at ign.com played the game but most of there reviewer's probably would not have had this problem. Anyway you can play the game over again as you can toggle between using 4 characters, though only two on certain levels. You have Baumusu and Gris as a choice on certain levels and on others you have Rau and Tati. I would recommend using Rau and Baumusu as they are the big guns and the most powerful. While they are slower, speed never is a problem. So personally for me, Rise of the Kasai is a great action/adventure game and for $40 since the game is made by SCEA, is well worth your money. I will throw in another review for you. Electronic Gaming Monthly only gave the game a 6, 6 and 7. Not sure why but again they are claiming an unpredicatable partner. Whatever. Pick up the game!
