On games.slashdot.org there is a story developing about Defective PSP units that were sold off the shelves to customers. The units are suffering from problems such as dead pixels, broken UMD drives, air bubbles in the screen, dust in the screen, the analog stick either not working or actually falling off. There has also been a video clip of a UMD disc actually popping out of the Sony PSP as it was running due to the unit being turned or twisted. Sony better be making an announcement soon before they have a real problem on there hands. This does not bold well for Sony, this being there first entry into handheld system category. With Nintendo being the real only competitor for 20 years, Sony has a lot of catch up work to do. Hopefully when the PSP launches in America, these problems will not exist. _________________ Don't Hate the Player, Hate the Game |

This platform is totally awesome!!!! The only complaint here is the dead pixel problem. So far, it is 2 for 2 with dead pixels. Have yet to turn it in for another. _________________ cleterdog |

Yah definitely make sure you don't let your kids spill Kool-Aid on your new PSP because trust me, it isn't going to work afterward. In my first PSP Unit I had no issues with it until my son spilled Kool-Aid on it. My second and the PSP I have now has 3 dead pixels, 1 being very large. I didn't notice them until I was watching Once Apon a Time in Mexico on UMD in the dark and they really stand out. Not so much the two tiny ones but the big one that has like 4 dead pixels bunched together. I am going to have to take it back to Sears where I purchased it because it looks bad and it is very distracting especially when it is above a black part on the screen. _________________ Don't Hate the Player, Hate the Game |

Well I either just have bad luck or Sony put out a bad batch of PSP Units and Sears got all of them. I returned my PSP with the Dead Pixels for another unit. Looked good at the store, no dead pixels. When I got in home and the sunlight was on it, I noticed that there were 2 fingerprints under the screen and also dust. Yes, you read correctly fingerprints under the screen. I first thought that maybe I touched it but when I scrubbed and scrubbed they weren't going anywhere. So another trip to return the PSP to Sears. I am not on my fourth unit. When I tested it at the store, it looked good. Took it out in the daylight and saw no fingerprints. Put in Spiderman 2: The movie and saw no pixels. In the light. I just turned it on in the dark and there are two dead pixels but very small so I can deal with them. If you have a bunch of dead pixels, I would return it back to where you bought it immediately. _________________ Don't Hate the Player, Hate the Game |
