I read an article a few days before Halo 2's release that many people were being kicked off of the Microsoft XBOX Live servers if they had done modications to there XBOX. Some modifications include having the system run Linux or playing music. Through XBOX Live, Microsoft can tell if the system has been modified and they will boot you off of XBOX Live. Microsoft is trying to keep players on XBOX Live as fair as possible so no cheating can be allowed. There is over 1 million players on XBOX Live and with over 15 million XBOX's circulating, Microsoft cannot tell how many machines have been modified but they think it is a small number. One of the things that made the XBOX such a success was it's ease to hack.
